Defender C.A.M.P

Defender Concussion Awareness and Management Program

Defender Mouthguards offer the best defense against sports related dental injury and mandibular impact concussion. Since a concussion can be sustained from other types of head injuries, Defender is taking a proactive approach to concussion management. We are proud to introduce Defender C.A.M.P.; the most aggressive, collaborative program engaging athletes, parents, doctors, coaches and athletic trainers in proactive education and concussion management.

With every Defender Mouthguard ordered,

Defender will pay for each athlete's Cognitive Baseline Test

through our partnership with Axon Sports.

The Technology behind the Axon Sports Computerized Cognitive Assessment Tool (CCAT) was conceived in 2000 to help medical providers measure the cognitive function of athletes after suspected concussions or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). We begin with the Baseline Test to measure an athlete's current cognitive performance. Cognition is a word that means thinking. Cognitive Baseline Testing provides snapshots of the athlete's thinking processes during simple tasks performed during the Baseline Test. Repeating the test after an injury identifies any cognitive changes from the baseline performance. This helps indicate whether or not the brain has fully recovered from the concussive injury. Doctors use the on-line concussion test results in making decisions about when it is safe to return athletes to the classroom and playing field.

DEFENDER... not just mouthguards anymore.

THE DEFENDER/AXON SPORTS ACTION PLAN

  1. Take Baseline Test.
  2. After a suspected injury, go to your doctor for evaluation.
  3. When symptoms have resolved take an After Injury Test
  4. Repeat this test until results return to Baseline levels.
  5. Return to your doctor for re-evaluation with your Baseline and After Injury results. Only your doctor can decide when you should return to play.

Note:The After Injury Test is NOT a medical diagnosis. After Injury reports should be interpreted only by a qualified medical provider and intended solely to give the provider additional information about an athlete's cognitive function.

Warning: Taking this test will not prevent head injury. Traumatic Brain Injury and Concussion are very serious medical conditions. If it is suspected that an athlete may have sustained such an injury, they should immediately seek the care of doctor. Only a doctor can safely make a decision on whether an athlete has sustained a traumatic brain injury or concussion or whether an athlete is ready to return to school or sports. The Axon Computerized Cognitive Assessment Tool (CCAT) will provide the doctor with additional information to help evaluate an athlete's cognitive function.
